2014 Offseason winners: revisited

Dallas bound?
The NBA Finals are upon us. The MVP is about to take on The King. Time sure flies. I can't believe it's been nearly eight months since I picked seven teams primed for improvement in 2014-2015. The Draft had happened, free agents had found new addresses, injured players had underwent surgeries... All 30 teams were 0-0 and anything was possible. With the NBA Draft (June 25) and free agency (July 1) nearing soon and teams already preparing for the 2015-2016 NBA season, the time is right to reflect upon my selections.

The Battle of the Five Armies

The Battle of the Five Armies by Peter Jackson

Last night I finally watched The Battle of the Five Armies (2014), the third and final installment of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy. I had very much liked An Unexpected Journey (2012) and The Desolation of Smaug (2013), and so I was more than a bit excited to check out the finale, which somehow I failed to catch in the cinema. What better way to wrap up a long weekend than with elves, orcs, dwarves, hobbits and dragons?

"I think that it is better to be beautiful than to be good"

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
"Be afraid of nothing"
I just finished reading The Picture of Dorian Gray (1891) by Irish author and playwright Oscar Wilde. When I stumbled upon the book in London last year, I knew that I had to buy it -- my former colleague Alan raved about it plenty when we used to man Tony Mertens together. Some research taught me that the book exists in two versions, the one a 13-chapter magazine edition, the other a 20-chapter novel edition. The revised version added some new chapters and divided others, all the while obscuring some of the more homoerotic themes of the story.

2014-2015 NBA All-Blue Collar Team

2014-2015 NBA All-Blue Collar Team
Work hard.
Stars are important in the NBA. They shouder the load, produce highlights, serve as the face of their organization, sell tickets, and liven up the league in general. Players like Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Russell Westbrook and James Harden are intensely markted athletes and All-Star Game fixtures who make the NBA go.

"Bring benefit to your customers first. Then benefits will naturally flow to you."

Get content, get customers by Joe Pulizzi
Thought leadership.
Yesterday I read Get Content, Get Customers (2009) by Joe Pulizzi and Newt Barrett. I found it in the Queromedia library, which I must admit has been really good to me:
