Horrible Bosses 2

Horrible Bosses 2 (2014)by Sean Anders
Kidnaping and stuff
Last night I watched Horrible Bosses 2 (2014), the sequel to 2011's Horrible Bosses in which Nick (Couples Retreat actor Jason Bateman), Kurt (Mr. Olivia Wilde/SNL alumn Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia actor Charlie Day) tried to murder their abusive bosses. The trailer looked funny, the weather outside was frightful, my gurl needed a study break, I had two cinema tickets laying around (Thanks, step bro Anthony!) ... You get the jist: the world wanted me to see this movie.

The skinny

This time around, Nick, Kurt and Dale are no longer cold, calculated murderers. As inventors of the "Shower Buddy", a car-wash inspired shower head, they are now respectable business owners chasing their American Dream. When they are approached by and consequently screwed over by billionaire investor Bert Hanson (Inglorious Basterd and Django Unchained star Christoph Waltz) and his son Rex (dreamboat Chris Pine), their dark sides resurface, and the trio + Motherfucker Jones (Jamie Foxx) devises a plan to kidnape Rex and demand a $500,000 ransom. As you might expect, their plan hits a few speedbumps along the way.

The review

The winning chemistry between Bateman, Sudeikis and Day is what makes this movie go. As Horrible Bosses 2 moves away from bad bosses and overbearing office politics, it offers more of the same, yet less than in the original installment. Still, #HB2 has plenty of funny moments as our stars stumble and fumble their way through 108 minutes of clueless crime and comedy. Chris Pine deserves a hat tip as bipolar brat Rex, and I loved that Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Spacey returned to reprive their roles as Dr. Julia and David Harken. Did director Sean Anders do anything new? Hells to the no, but he did deliver a perfectly silly and funny end-of-the-week movie.

Bonus: Check out Charlie Day's Merrimack College commencement speech. It's definitely worth the watch!
