Celtics avoid first-round elimination with overtime win vs Knicks

Boston Celtics avoid elimination with vintage Paul Pierce performance

I have to admit: things started looking bleak as the Celtics mustered a mere 75.0 PPG on 37.1 percent shooting through Game 3.

Tonight, Carmelo Anthony struggled mightily from the floor (scoring 36 points on 35 shots) and the Celtics led by as many as 20 points, but Knicks guard Raymond Felton brought New York all the way back. The Celtics then overcame foul trouble (Garnett, Bass) to seal the game.

It took a vintage Paul Pierce performance (29 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists), clutch shooting by Jason Terry and an OT frame, but the Celtics defeated the JR Smith-less Knicks, 97-90, to stave off elimination.

One game at the time.
